‘Russell Street’ A Story.

Russell1878Many years ago my mate Bazza had his car stolen in Adelaide and after numerous phone calls to the police he had given up ever finding it again.
Three weeks past and he got a call at work in the Islington Railway workshops from the cops who informed him that they had found his car in Russell Street.
We grabbed a street directory and off we went to get the car.
Well, after about searching ten Russell Streets in Adelaide and no car we decided it might be a good thing to ring the cops back.
They had no record of the phone call to Bazza but said they would try and trace the details.
Three days later Bazza gets another call from the cops and this time he had the sense to ask them exactly where the car was …yeah you guessed it was in…
Bloody Russell Street in Melbourne … the home of the Melbourne Goal.
That weekend we used our one free interstate pass and caught the train to Melbourne …
I don’t remember any street art in those days.

Comrade Jim.
