‘Groundwaters’ by Liz Hickok.

JuxtapozHickok08Liz Hickok’s latest series, Ground Waters, is created by flooding miniature scenes of urban decay with liquid crystal solutions.
The solutions crystallize on the structures, creating an etherial scene that defies typical proportions.
JuxtapozHickok06The scenes could be from a fantastical world.
In her artist statement, Hickok says, “While the sculptures’ colors are pleasing and inviting, the sharp formatons are clearly chemical in nature, referencing the pollutants that seep into, even saturate, our environment.”
Hickok also documents the sculptures’ formations with time-lapse photography, for presentation alongside the photographs.
