1960: ABC TV opens in Adelaide.

abs2_openingThe Year is 1960 and the Australian Broadcasting Commission (the National Broadcaster) opens Channel ABS2 in Adelaide on 11 March, 1960 with its studio in the suburb of Collinswood.
The Television Tower is located on top of Mount Lofty, not really a mountain at all, but a tall hill. Mount Lofty is part of the Adelaide Hills and not far out from the City Centre of Adelaide.

There was no colour TV in those days of course and we watched a flickery Phil Silvers show  (Sgt. Bilko) and a heap of dreary old opening speeches.
