‘Solitary’ by Jeroen Baeken.

JEROEN-BAEKEN04Paintings of solitary figures in nature that reflects on human existence.
Whether the painting depicts a solitary figure or several persons in one space, the focus always is a meditative, sometimes alienating atmosphere.
The multiple transparent layers of oil paint provide extra depth and richness in colours.
Oil permits to paint vague contours which enhances the atmospheric character of the image.
The figures are located in an undefined space, or in surroundings that refer to nature: floating in water, sitting in a hollow tree, crawling on the beach…
These simple images may trigger reflections about human existence.
