At King William Road before the start bell went, most of the Comps would stand on the Bridge that went across to the Hot Metal Chute.
One particular week a Leather clad youth passed by on the footpath.
Seeing the unfortunate passerby, three of the toughest and hardest apprentices that the Old Guv had produced in over 100 years, would yell out to the youth, “Hey there! You big tough Rocker C**T”.
The three tough guys were Chris “Rams” Ramsay, Darryl “Chook” Preece and Tiny Little Mick Mulcahy.
Thinking they were safe with all the comps gathered around them on the bridge, they continued the verbal barrage day after day.
Finally, by about day four, the leather clad youth calmly walked through the gate, politely asked the printers below how to get to the bridge and started climbing the steps.
He stood and confronted our “three heroes’. He stepped towards them, he knew exactly who the three loudmouths were….
In a calm voice he said, “Would you care to repeat what you’ve been saying about me?”
The silence was deafening , the three tough guys instantly shit themselves and became scared little boys.
They slunk off with the sniggers, giggles and laughter of the Comps ringing in their ears!
